What do you get when Snow White meets Mecha and Space Opera?
You get Cold Snap, an indie novel brimming with fun and explosions by Macky Santiago.
Yuki Shirogane is Snow White, except that she’s nothing like the Disney Princess you’re familiar with. In this world, Yuki is the Captain of the Winter Diamond, and she executes dangerous missions with the DWARVES (Defense-force Weaponized Assault Robots, Version: Extreme Suppression). Yuki utilizes a mind link to all seven DWARVES, and when they synchronize, they turn into the galaxy’s elite hit team. In this story, they must storm the enemy’s space station to rescue two princesses, while evading devious bots and the wicked “mother” who threatens the universe.

The best things I liked about Cold Snap were the characters and their relationships. I loved the dynamics Yuki had with each “dwarf”. Every character jumped from the page, carrying a unique personality and voice that pulsated through all the tech.
This story is fast-paced with plenty of twists, emotional highs, and a stellar adventure. In the midst of the action, this story underscores the value of found families and overcoming a dark past.
This book also comes with a companion Art Book complete with full-color illustrations by Kahlil Santiago . If you’ve got a taste for anime and good-looking characters, do check ’em out!
